Everyone,
Every day or week seems to bring fresh terribleness out there in the world. I want to go on an anti-war tirade here, but I will spare you all. But I hope that we all also can see some light, wherever we find it. I am inspired by all the forms of resistance growing, while simultaneously feeling despair at the callous disregard for the sanctity of life and the lack of compassion for others in need that seems to be a marker of the current era (and maybe every era that there have been humans).
One way to stay grounded and connected to others in difficult times is to write in community. Your writing can be a refuge, escape, a creative boost, or a chance to process or protest with your full voice. It can be lonely to write though, so attending a BHWA Work Room helps ease that and is a way to hold yourself accountable to show up for your writing. And it’s free!
Each month, I think that I will cut down the number of Work Rooms and then each month, I think, well, let’s keep it 3x a week for one more month. So, in July, we will continue to gather virtually Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 am to 1 PM Eastern time. We won’t meet on July 4. Sign up for one, a few, or all the sessions, and come for all or part of them. Here’s where you can register.
Last week, I announced the addition of Community News to our little writing cabal. As promised, I made this simple form for you to use to send in your news you’d like to share with the rest of us.
And a little community news: shoutout for recent book birthdays to Blair Fell (Disco Witches of Fire Island) and Nova Ren Suma (Wake the Wild Creatures). Blair and Nova are authors who inspire me with their dedication and tenacity to get books done, along with their incredible storytelling abilities. Reviews for both books have been raves. I am lucky enough to have read/heard these books in progress and hope you’ll check them out.
